Goal 4 - Quality education

General secondary schools are schools whose completion makes it possible to obtain a maturity certificate after passing the matriculation exam. The duration of education is 3 years (for secondary school graduates) or 4 years (for primary school graduates, from the 2019/2020 school year), and in bilingual schools (bilingual branches) with an enrolment class - one year longer. Graduates of general secondary schools after graduating from the highest program class obtain secondary education, which gives them the opportunity to apply for admission to post-secondary schools. After passing the matriculation exam, they are entitled to apply for admission to higher education.

Data on teachers concern teachers (including teachers of religion) employed in the implementation of existing educational activities, i.e. without after-school educators and librarians conducting only extra-curricular activities, etc. Only part-time related to the obligation to teach (without duties related to the function of educator, conducting extracurricular activities, due to the managerial function, etc.) was included.

Data on teachers refer to full-time and part-time employees in terms of full-time employees. Full-time or part-time status has been assigned to all teachers regardless of the form of employment (e.g. also in the case of persons working under a contract of mandate or a contract for specific work).

The student is a person attending school.

The reform of the education system, which began on September 1, 2017, introduced an 8-year primary school and ultimately abolished lower secondary school and introduced a 4-year general secondary school, a 5-year technical school, a 3-year industry first-cycle school, a 2-year industry second-cycle school. This reform has had an impact on the scope of the data presented, including the number of teachers and school pupils at different levels of education.
