Morbidity is the frequency of new cases of a disease in a studied population.
Lyme disease (Latin: borreliosis, morbus Lyme) is a multisystemic infectious disease caused by bacteria belonging to spirochetes. The most common genospecies that are the etiological factor are: Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto, Borrelia garinii and Borrelia afzelii, transmitted to humans and some animals by ticks of the genus Ixodes. Human infection occurs after the tick bites and feeds on the skin. The reservoir of the spirochete is numerous species of animals, mainly rodents.
