Morbidity is the frequency of new cases of a disease in the studied population. Salmonella bacteria occur in wild and farm animals. In favorable conditions (heat, moisture, presence of protein) they can live outside the living organism for several months.
A person can become infected by:
- eating food contaminated with Salmonella bacteria,
- eating food products from infected animals (meat, eggs, milk),
- using contaminated kitchen equipment, food production machines.
