Methodological explanations

Bird species that indices of populations constitute the FBI for Poland are: White Stork, Common Kestrel, Northern Lapwing, Black-tailed Godwit, Hoopoe, Turtle Dove, Skylark, Crested Lark, Meadow Pipit, Yellow Wagtail, Barn Swallow, Whinchat, Stonechat, Common Whitethroat, Red-backed Shrike, Tree Sparrow, European Starling, Linnet, Serin, Corn Bunting, Yellowhammer and Ortolan Bunting.

The indicator is calibrated in relation to base year, which in case of Poland in year 2000. It means that, FBI value for year 2000 was established at 100. The value of indicator of 88 in year 2010 means that in this year FBI was 12% lower than in base year.

FBI index is currently one of officially used indexes of environment condition in EU member states. It is perceived agriculture ecosystem health index.

FBI is based on data collected within the Common Breeding Bird Monitoring.
