Methodological explanations
A railway line is an element of the railway network between two junction (or terminal) stations.
The length of railway lines in operation is the sum of the construction lengths of standard gauge, narrow gauge and broad gauge railway lines. The construction length of railway lines is understood as the distance between their terminal points measured on single-track lines - along the track axis, and on multi-track lines - along the axis of the longest track.
