Methodological explanations
Length of railway lines operated - the sum of the construction lengths of standard gauge, narrow gauge and broad gauge railway lines in operation on 31 December. The construction length of railway lines is understood as the distance between its end points measured on single-track lines - along the track axis, and on multi-track lines along the axis of the longest track. Additional methodological explanations: 1. Standard gauge railway lines are lines whose tracks have a clearance of 1435 mm. 2. Narrow gauge railway lines are lines whose tracks have a clearance of less than 1435 mm. (e.g. 1000 mm, 785 mm). 3. Broad gauge railway lines are lines whose tracks have a clearance of greater than 1435 mm. (e.g. 1524 mm).
