Methodological explanations
The Population Economic Activity Survey (LFS) is one of the basic studies conducted by the Central Statistical Office in the area of the labour market. This study enables the current assessment of the degree of utilization of labour resources, and at the same time allows for a broader characterization of individual population groups distinguished by their status on the labour market (working, unemployed) or remaining outside the labour market (inactive). The LFS is the Polish edition of the European Labour Force Survey (ELS). Labour Force Survey/LFS) and has been conducted in Poland on a quarterly basis since May 1992. This is a continuous survey carried out throughout the year on a sample of the population staying or intending to stay in the country for at least 12 months, living in households in randomly selected apartments.
The LFS unemployment rate represents the share of unemployed people in the number of active people.
The unemployed according to the LFS are people aged 15-74 who meet three conditions at the same time:
- during the week in question were not working persons,
- were actively looking for a job, i.e. took specific actions within 4 weeks (including the last week tested) to find a job,
- were ready (able) to work in the two weeks following the week of study.

Notes
Since 2023, data on the resident population of Poland from balance sheets compiled on the basis of the results of the 2021 National Population and Housing Census have been used to generalise the results of the Population Activity Survey (LFS) to the general population. The presented data for the years 2021-2022 have been recalculated in accordance with the new basis for generalization of results, therefore they are not fully comparable with earlier periods.
