7.C.2 Share of gaseous pollution retained or neutralized in pollutant reduction systems in the total pollutants generated
Sustainable Development Goal
Goal 7. Affordable and clean energy
Priority
Modernization and expansion of energy infrastructure
Definition
The indicator is represented as a percentage ratio of the volume of retained pollution and the volume of produced pollution i.e. retained and emitted.
Unit
percent
Available dimensions
total
Methodological explanations
The value of this indicator is between 0 and 100%. The closer to 100% is the value, the bigger is the protection potential of a particular source of pollution.
Data on the volume of contained or neutralized particulate pollution illustrate volume of pollution reduced in devices designed for protection of atmosphere, installed at plants of significant nuisance to air quality. Efficiency of cleaning devices determined as the level of pollution reduction is the characteristic figure for equipment and shows what percentage of the total pollution has been retained in the device.
The actual effectiveness of the device operation is equal to or lower than the assumed operating effectiveness. This is because the device operation conditions (e.g. chemical composition of the flowing particulates and gases, grain composition of particulates, flow of gas, temperature, humidity and pressure of gas and other) as well as its availability.
Plants of significant nuisance to air quality are the so-called point sources of pollution emission and include all organizational units specified by the Minister of Environment Protection and Natural Resources on the basis of the amount of fees paid in 1986 for an annual emission of air pollutants according to rates specified in the Regulation of the Council of Ministers of 13 January 1986 on fees for economic use of the environment and introduction of changes (Journal of Laws No. 7 item 40, with later amendments). Thus, a fixed set of reporting units (plants) is maintained annually, which enables to preserve continuity and comparability of research results. The set may be enlarged only in particular cases e.g. newly launched entities or expanded entities of a high threshold pollution emission.
