| Water collected from intakes is the amount of water collected from an intake at the specific time, e.g. in a year, both raw water, requiring treatment (purification) and clean water not requiring purification. Water collected from intakes includes water taken from: - deep drilled wells or shallow drilled and dug wells, - from open reservoirs of raw water (rivers, lakes, artificial water reservoirs, etc.), - from natural sources (e.g. hill slope), - from drainage system facilities.
The amount of water collected from intakes is calculated based on readings of water gauges installed in: wells, collective wells, pump stations or water drainage facilities delivering water for 1st degree of treatment. In case there are no water gauges, the amount of water collected from intakes is determined based on records from flow metres or other measuring devices, or based on output of water pumping devices and the time of their work in the reporting period.
The sources of water withdrawal are: surface water, groundwater and water from the drainage of mining plants and construction works (used for production). Data on water abstraction shall relate to withdrawal for the following purposes: - productive - outside agriculture (excluding industrial livestock farms and plant production plants), forestry, hunting and fishing, - operation of the water supply network, - filling and refilling of fish ponds (up to 2018 including irrigation of agricultural and forestry areas). The area criterion for filling fish ponds is 10 ha or more.
Water withdrawal for production purposes is the amount of water abstracted from the plant intakes (groundwater, surface water, internal marine water, water from the dewatering of mining plants and construction works used for production or sold) for production purposes. It does not include water purchased from other units.
Water withdrawal for the operation of the water supply network means water abstraction at intakes before being injected into the network. The indicator takes into account the change in the country's surface area in 2023, consisting in the inclusion “Zatoki Puckiej” and part of the “Zatoki Gdańskiej” into the surface of internal marine waters. |
