Methodological explanations
Act of 4 February 2011 on the Care for Children aged up to 3 years (Journal of Laws 2024 item 338, as amended) provides for the care of children in: nurseries and children's clubs, by a day caregiver or by a nanny.
Nursery, children's club is an organizational unit having the care of children under the age of 3, making functions of caring, upbringing, education and entered in the register kept by the mayor, president of the city.
Childcare is provided in the nursery from the age of 20 weeks, and in the children’s club from the age of 1. In the nursery and children's club, childcare is provided for up to 10 hours per day for each child. The number of seats in the children's club cannot be more than 30.
A nursery ward is the institution operating at nursery schools (or other institution) which provide childcare services for children up to the age of 3, do not recorded in a register of nurseries and children's clubs led by the mayor.
Facilities covered by the Statistics Poland survey:
- nursery and nursery wards and children's clubs since 2012;
- nurseries and children’s clubs (since 2022), excluding nursery wards.
Data from 2022 based on the Register of Nurseries, which does not include the category ‘nursery ward’.
