Passing the matriculation exam is the percentage of people who obtained a maturity certificate among graduates from a given year, who at the main date (in May) took all compulsory exams.

The matriculation exam is carried out as the end of secondary school, and its result determines the start of further education. It is attended by graduates of general secondary schools, technicians and other secondary schools.

Since 2015, the matriculation exam has been conducted in a new formula. To pass the exam and obtain a certificate you must: obtain at least 30% of the points from the exam in each compulsory subject in the oral part and in the written part and take the written exam in the selected additional subject (no pass threshold).

The applicant must take two exams in the oral part: Polish and modern foreign language and 4 exams in the written part: at basic level: Polish, modern foreign language and mathematics, as well as an examination in a selected additional subject at the extended level. In addition to one compulsory exam in an additional subject at the extended level, you can take exams in no more than five other subjects. Graduates of schools or branches with the language of instruction of a national minority must also take the exam in the language of that minority.
