Methodological explanations
Morbidity is the frequency of new cases of a disease in a studied population.
Invasive Pneumococcal Disease is caused by the Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria, which causes many clinical syndromes depending on the site of infection (e.g. acute otitis media, pneumonia, sepsis, meningitis). The course of the disease varies from moderately severe, often recurrent upper respiratory tract infections to severe invasive pneumonia with sepsis with a complicated course. Infection is usually preceded by colonization of the upper respiratory tract by S. pneumomiae.
