Methodological explanations
Research and development (R&D) is creative work undertaken methodically to increase the stock of knowledge - including knowledge of mankind, culture and society - and to create new applications for existing knowledge.
Internal R&D expenditures are all current expenditures and gross capital expenditures on fixed assets related to R&D activities carried out in a statistical unit during a given reporting period, regardless of the source of financing.
Food production includes the processing of agricultural, forestry, hunting and fishing products into food and beverages for humans or animals.1 Manufacturing activities involve the physical or chemical processing of raw materials, materials or semi-finished products into a new product.
