Goal 16 - Peace and justice - strong institutions

A foundation – a legal person whose activity is based on assets transferred by a founder and on current payments (subsidies), which is established for realization of socially or economically useful purposes compatible with the fundamental interests of the Republic of Poland, in particular such as: health care, development of economy and science, education, culture and art, human health and social work activities, environmental protection and monument preservation. Foundation acts under the Law of 6 April 1984 on foundations and on the basis of its statute. It acquires legal entity with being recorded in the National Court Register.

A founder – a natural person irrespective of their nationality and place of residence, or a legal person with its seat in Poland or abroad.

An association – a voluntary, self-governing, stable union of people for non-profit purposes, which independently determines its goals, activity programs and organizational structures, as well as adopts internal rules regarding its activities. Polish citizens with full legal capacity and public rights have the right to form associations. The legal basis for activities is the Law of 7 April 1989 on associations and an adopted statute. An association acquires legal entity and can start its activities with being recorded in the National Court Register. A simplified form of association is an ordinary association which does not have legal entity.

REGON (National Official Register of Economic Entities) is a set of information on entities of national economy run in the computer system in the form of central and local databases. Currently, it is the only integrated register in Poland which involves all entities of national economy. Every entity has a unique nine-digit identification number (REGON) given by the Central Statistical Office, which is used in banking, customs, tax systems as well as in processing of data on foreign trade and in other commercial and marketing systems.

According to the Act of 29 June 1995 on public statistics, every entity of the national economy is required to register its business activity in the REGON.
