Methodological explanations
Municipal wastes are defined as the wastes generated in households (excluding end of life vehicles) as well as waste which does not contain hazardous substances, coming from other waste producers, which in their nature or composition are similar to wastes generated in households; mixed municipal waste remain mixed municipal waste, even if they have been processed, which did not change substantially their attributes.
Collection of wastes is gathering the wastes before their transportation to the places of processing, including preliminary sorting which does not lead to fundamental change of their character, composition and not resulting in change in the waste classification. It includes temporary waste storage.
According to Waste Act selective collection of waste is a collection in which the waste stream, in order to facilitate a specific treatment, covers only the waste characterized by the same properties and the same characteristics.
Data on municipal wastes are gathered from units responsible for wastes collection. Information comprise the group of wastes coded 20: Municipal waste together with selectively gathered fractions, and wastes coded 15 01: Packaging waste (together with selectively gathered municipal waste) if come from municipal sector.
