The number of formalised entities, institutionally separate from public administration and self-governing entities whose activities are characterised by voluntary participation and non-profit nature, per 10 thousand population.

Methodological explanations
The non-profit sector is a group of entities that meet the following conditions: - are formalized to an appropriate degree (e.g. as a result of registration with the appropriate office), or at least their goals, method of operation and structure are permanent, - are institutionally separate from public administration, - are non-profit (they operate not for profit and do not distribute any surplus among their members, employees, etc.), - are self-governing (the authorities and directions of activity are determined within the organization), - are characterized by voluntary participation in the organization's activities.
The group studied includes: active associations and similar social organizations, foundations, social religious entities, economic and professional self-government, and employers' organizations.
